iVersity has made a lot of progress with developing interactive environments in Second Life. We have developed Symbion to create the art, architecture, and application that make the Virtual Island an immersive experience.
Some of the aspects we have included at Symbion include:University, Temple, Ampitheater, Skyscrapers,Residences, Beach, and marina.
These features compose most of the 65,000 square meter island.
Visit in Second Life!
iVersity was choosen by the University of Missouri - Kansas City (UMKC) and Kansas State University (K-State) as the developers for Geoworlds. The GeoWorlds Project is an innovative integration of collaborative virtual learning environments and problem-based pedagogy to engage students in Earth science while enhancing their problem-solving skills and content knowledge. The Teacher/Facilitators in each classroom will be trained in the problem-based approach with Earth science content is based in the national and state science education standards.
Geoworlds utilizes Second Life, an extensive Multi-User Virtual Environment (MUVE) to provide education opportunities to students and schools in an interactive fashion. The project is nearing completion for the first part, entitled TerraWorld, and will begin on the second part, WaterWorld, shortly. The project combines the power of a MUVE and the 2D web to provide an innovative multimedia learning environment, including a Learning Management System, in-world vidoes, links from the virtual flora and fauna to information about them online.
